Newly acquired Los Angeles Rams cornerback Aqib Talib had only two destinations in mind when trade talks surfaced this offseason.
Talib told the Rams' official website that his preferred locales for his next job were with Los Angeles or the New England Patriots, citing familiarity with coaches in both organizations.
Acquired from the Denver Broncos last month in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick, Talib pointed to the presence of Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, who served in the same capacity in the Mile High City in 2015-16.
"Well, I'm in the later half of my career and I just wanted to be comfortable," said Talib. "Wherever I went, I wanted to be comfortable and there was no time in the NFL where I was more comfortable playing football than with Wade Phillips. He's like a guru at putting guys in position to succeed. So if I was going to go somewhere I wanted to be comfortable and I'm definitely comfortable here in L.A."
The 32-year-old Talib said he nixed a trade to the San Francisco 49ers, but would have accepted a move to New England, where he played for 1 1/2 seasons with the Patriots.
Talib earned Pro Bowl honors in his last season with New England (2013) and was a Pro Bowl selection in each of his four seasons with Denver.
Entering his 11th season and joining his fourth team, Talib leads all active cornerbacks in interceptions (34) since he entered the league in 2008.
"Man, I'm very excited just to be in L.A., the weather, just to be back with coach Wade and be with a nice team like this," said Talib. "This a great team, a great organization. So a competitive team to be a part of a competitive team and make this run towards the Super Bowl is a blessing."
