The Scott Cooper Miami Scholarship has announced a new scholarship opportunity for students entering or enrolled in a post-secondary program in one of the following areas: business management, marketing, film, theater, communications, journalism, education, or fitness.
Applicants are required to submit an essay (maximum 500 words) on one of the following three topics:
1) What is your favorite movie and why?
2) Can Bernie Sanders defeat Donald Trump in a national election?
3) How has China handled the Coronavirus outbreak?
Applications are due by March 15, 2020, and the award will be announced on April 1, 2020.
In 2018, Florida-based Scott Cooper Miami contributed to an article in Patch Magazine. The focus of the article was how New Orleans helped kick-start the trend of corporate philanthropy. Companies like Walmart and Johnson & Johnson set the trend and their example has lived on. The Scott Cooper Miami Project hopes to not only inspire creativity in its own applicants but hopes to set its own trend.
The Scott Cooper Miami Scholarship prides itself on its creative approach to offering scholarships. The scholarship administrator is not interested in why a student believes he deserves an award. It is not based on prior academic achievement or GPA. The award is not based on financial need. It is based on creativity. The scholarship administrator wants to be entertained with a succinct and interesting essay (500 words or less).
Find below a list of recent 2020 scholarship winners:
1) Heidi Greenfield of Pepperdine University
2) Erica Rawlins of Syracuse University
3) Madisyn Travisano of Seton Hall University
4) Renee Yan of the University of Buffalo
Past essays were based on topics such as "what steps students would take to solve the US immigration crisis," "if students believed that Jeffrey Epstein, the accused sex trafficker, really commit suicide," "who do you support for President of the United States and why," and "what each of us can do to stop global warming."
The Scott Cooper Miami Scholarship is unique in the sense that it requires students to write essays that are thought-provoking and controversial. The scholarship committee is looking to award creative thinkers.
