Seattle Sounders forward Raul Ruidiaz was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount Friday for whipping his right foot across the leg of the Portland Timbers' Pablo Bonilla.
Ruidiaz leads the Sounders with eight goals, third most in the MLS behind Los Angeles FC's Diego Rossi (11) and the Columbus Crew's Gyasi Zardes (nine). He will sit out Saturday's road game against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
In the 54th minute of Wednesday's road game against the Timbers, Ruidiaz and Bonilla became entangled while pursuing a ball. As Ruidiaz was going to the ground during the battle, he swung his right leg, connecting with the back of Bonilla's left leg.
In other MLS discipline, Montreal Impact forward Romell Quioto was suspended a second game and fined an undisclosed amount for violent conduct against the Philadelphia Union's Mark McKenzie.
Three players were fined for embellishment: Atlanta United's Jon Gallagher, Real Salt Lake's Damir Kreilach and the Colorado Rapids' Andre Shinyashiki. Two others were fined for not leaving the field in time after a red card: FC Dallas' Bryan Acosta and Minnesota United's Jan Gregus.
