FC Dallas looks to solve their road scoring issues and get back on the winning track when they travel to play Real Salt Lake on Saturday evening in a key Western Conference match in Sandy, Utah.
Real Salt Lake (5-7-6, 21 points) can move above the playoff line in the West with a win on Saturday after an extended, late-season break created when its match scheduled for Oct. 18 against Colorado was postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests in the Rapids' player and staff pool.
FC Dallas (6-5-6, 24 points) have won just once on the road this season, are 1-4-2 in away games and are scoreless in their past three games away from home, all of those losses. Dallas has five games remaining on its regular-season schedule, with three of those on the road.
Franco Jara, FC Dallas' designated player, leads the team in goals for the year with five but hasn't tallied in the side's past six matches.
"We are getting the ball into the attacking third, but we are not rewarding ourselves," FC Dallas manager Luchi Gonzalez said. "There are little things we need to do to keep creating an urgency and more aggressiveness to put the ball on the net quicker.
"You can look good but don't necessarily get the results. We have to match those things. If not, we won't reach our potential. No matter their age or experience, I trust them. We got to keep working."
Saturday's game will be the first for RSL since an Oct. 14, 2-1 win at home over Portland. Douglas Martinez and Damir Kreilach scored inside that match's opening 30 minutes to help garner that victory.
The win over Portland snapped a three-game losing streak for Real Salt Lake and was its first victory since Sept. 23.
"We felt like our backs were against the wall," RSL midfielder Nick Besler said after the win over Portland. "We know what position we're in right now. We know what our form had been up until tonight. We treated (the Portland game) like a final, where it was almost a must-win."
Real Salt Lake has won 11 of the 22 matches played all-time at home against Dallas, with four of those games ending in draws, and has outscored FC Dallas 33-26 in the contests at Rio Tinto Stadium.
