McKinley Wright IV poured in 24 points as Colorado defeated Kansas State 76-58 in the final game of the Little Apple Classic on Friday evening in Manhattan, Kan.
The Buffaloes (2-0) outscored the Wildcats 46-27 in the second half.
The former Big 8 and Big 12 rivals had not met since 2011, when Colorado left to join the Pac-12 Conference.
Maddox Daniels chipped in 10 points for Colorado, and three other Buffaloes scored nine points apiece.
The Wildcats (0-2) were led by Nijel Pack with 12 points, the only Kansas State player to reach double figures. The hosts, who shot 54.5 percent in the first half, struggled from the field in the second half, shooting just 36 percent.
Wright scored eight points in the first eight minutes of the second half as Colorado pulled away steadily. The Buffaloes shot 55.2 percent from the field in the second half. They led by as many as 14 points on multiple occasions before stretching the lead to 18 late in the game.
After a first half that saw both teams go on big runs, Kansas State took a 31-30 edge into halftime.
The Wildcats jumped out to a big lead early, holding a 22-9 advantage at the midpoint mark of the first half after a 12-0 run in which Colorado went almost six minutes without scoring. The Buffs were shooting just 26.7 percent, including just 1-for-7 from 3-point range. Meanwhile the Wildcats were hitting their shots at a 60 percent clip, including 4-for-7 from long range.
A flagrant-1 foul on Davion Bradford ignited a 14-0 run for Colorado that eliminated a 13-point deficit and gave the Buffs their first lead of the game, 23-22. Neither team led by more than three points the rest of the half.
Wright paced Colorado with nine points in the first half. Kansas State was led by Pack, who left the game at the 9:56 mark after running into an Evan Battey screen at midcourt. Pack did not return in the first half, but he played 18 minutes in the second half.
