Parker Messick struck out six over seven innings for his first win in the majors as the Cleveland Guardians snapped their six-game losing streak by beating the visiting Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 on Tuesday night.

Kyle Manzardo and Brayan Rocchio each had RBI singles and Bo Naylor added a sacrifice fly in the first, putting the Guardians up by three and ending their 28-inning scoreless streak that began Friday against the Texas Rangers.

Messick (1-0) joined Joe Musgrove (2016 Houston Astros) as the only pitchers in major league history to record at least six strikeouts, no more than one walk and no more than one run in their first two big-league appearances.

Rays starter Shane Baz (8-11) lost his eighth consecutive decision after working six innings and allowing three runs on three hits.

Mets 6, Phillies 5

Brandon Nimmo hit a walk-off RBI single to send host New York over Philadelphia in a back-and-forth battle between the top two teams in the National League East.

The Mets squandered a 5-2 lead before producing the winning rally without allowing Jhoan Duran (6-6) to record an out in the ninth. Starling Marte, Pete Alonso and Brett Baty all singled before Nimmo delivered his fifth career walk-off hit. Mets closer Edwin Diaz (6-2) retired all five batters he faced, four by strikeout, after entering a 5-5 game.

The Mets have won four of five after opening August with a 5-13 mark. New York pulled within five games behind the NL East-leading Phillies, who have lost three of five.

Brewers 9, Diamondbacks 8

Isaac Collins delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the ninth inning as Milwaukee edged visiting Arizona after blowing an early six-run lead.

William Contreras singled to open the ninth against Juan Morillo (0-3). Brandon Lockridge ran for Castillo and Christian Yelich and Andrew Vaughn walked to load the bases. One out later, Collins won it.

The Diamondbacks trailed 6-0 after three innings and 8-3 after six but rallied to tie with three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth. Hard-throwing Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski allowed three runs on four hits, striking out 10 and walking one in five innings.

Braves 11, Marlins 2

Former Marlins infielder Vidal Brujan started a nine-run ninth inning with an RBI double, Ozzie Albies homered twice and drove in four, and Atlanta pulled away from host Miami.

Reliever Tyler Zuber (0-1) started the ninth and took the loss. Josh Simpson followed and was charged with seven runs in one-third of an inning.

Braves rookie Hurston Waldrep lasted 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits, one walk and one run. Miami's Tyler Kinley (3-3) earned the win in relief, allowing one hit in a scoreless eighth inning. Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara hurled seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits.

Red Sox 5, Orioles 0

Boston's Lucas Giolito pitched eight shutout innings to upstage the return of Baltimore starter Kyle Bradish as the visiting Red Sox beat the Orioles.

Trevor Story and David Hamilton both homered off Bradish (0-1), who had Tommy John surgery in June 2024. The right-hander struck out 10 batters without a walk in six innings. Two of the four hits he allowed were solo home runs.

Giolito (9-2) held the Orioles to four hits while striking out eight and walking one. He threw 104 pitches as the Red Sox won for the fifth time in six games.

Padres 7, Mariners 6

Ramon Laureano hit a grand slam in a five-run first inning, but then San Diego had to rally to win at Seattle.

Randy Arozarena and Eugenio Suarez hit three-run shots in the fifth as the Mariners took a 6-5 lead. The Padres replied in the sixth, when Jake Cronenworth lined an RBI single off Caleb Ferguson (3-4) and Freddy Fermin had a go-ahead sacrifice bunt.

San Diego reliever Adrian Morejon (10-4) struck out the side in the sixth, and Robert Suarez worked the ninth for his 35th save.

Yankees 5, Nationals 1

Giancarlo Stanton hit a bases-clearing double in the third inning, a two-run homer in the sixth and drove in five total runs as New York defeated visiting Washington.

Luis Gil (2-1) allowed one run on five hits in five innings, and four Yankee relievers held the Nationals off the board. Cody Bellinger added a pair of hits and scored twice for New York.

Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore (5-13) allowed three runs on three hits in five innings. CJ Abrams had three hits for Washington and drove in the team's lone run.

Dodgers 6, Reds 3

Clayton Kershaw went five strong innings and Enrique Hernandez drove in the go-ahead run in his return to the starting lineup as Los Angeles beat visiting Cincinnati again.

Will Smith hit a home run as the Dodgers picked up their second consecutive victory to start the three-game series. Kershaw (9-2) gave up one run on two hits as he has earned victories in a season-best five consecutive starts.

Spencer Steer led off the game with a double and scored for the Reds, and Austin Hays hit a two-run home run for the game's final margin. Cincinnati fell to 3-5 in its three-city, nine-game road trip that ends Wednesday.

Twins 7, Blue Jays 5

Matt Wallner hit a three-run homer in a four-run ninth inning and visiting Minnesota defeated Toronto.

Twins rookie Mickey Gasper hit his first career homer leading off the ninth against Jeff Hoffman (8-5), tying the game 4-4. Wallner went deep with two on and two outs. Luke Keaschall earlier hit a two-run homer to help the Twins square the three-game series.

Minnesota reliever Michael Tonkin (2-0) got two outs for the win, and Justin Topa gave up a run in the ninth but earned his fourth save. George Springer homered twice and finished 4-for-5 for the Blue Jays.

Royals 5, White Sox 4

Kyle Isbel hit a go-ahead single in the ninth inning after Michael Massey tied the game with a two run single, lifting Kansas City Royals to a win at Chicago.

The White Sox led 4-0 after seven innings and came within four outs of recording their third straight shutout. The Royals rallied for five runs and eight hits against the Chicago relief corps over the last two innings, with Grant Taylor (0-4) taking the loss.

Kansas City reliever Sam Long (2-3) tossed one scoreless inning, and Carlos Estevez did the same for his 35th save. Martin Perez pitched seven shutout innings and Colson Montgomery homered in his fourth straight game for Chicago.

Pirates 8, Cardinals 3

Henry Davis hit a solo homer and drove in two runs as visiting Pittsburgh defeated St. Louis.

Andrew McCutchen knocked in two runs and Bryan Reynolds hit two doubles, scored twice and drove in a run for the Pirates, who won for the fifth time in six games. Mitch Keller (6-12) allowed three runs on three hits in six innings.

Nolan Gorman hit a two-run homer for the Cardinals, who lost for the ninth time in 13 games. Andre Pallante (6-12) gave up eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits in five innings.

Rangers 7, Angels 3

Michael Helman, Kyle Higashioka and Corey Seager had home runs to help Patrick Corbin post his first win since July 10 as the Texas topped Los Angeles in Arlington, Texas.

Corbin (7-9) pitched a season-high scoreless eight innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out eight, including five of the final six batters he faced.

Los Angeles starter Yusei Kikuchi (6-9) struggled with his command from the first batter and paid the price, surrendering six runs on four hits and three walks while lasting just four innings. The Rangers have won four of their past five games while the Angels have dropped four of five.

Giants 5, Cubs 2

Wilmer Flores and Matt Chapman smacked home runs, Heliot Ramos collected three hits and San Francisco beat visiting Chicago to give Justin Verlander just his second win of the season.

Verlander (2-10) threw six innings of seven-hit, two-run ball. Ryan Walker tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his 12th save.

Pete Crow-Armstrong had two hits for the Cubs, who had won six of their previous seven games. Matthew Boyd (12-7) gave up five runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Athletics 7, Tigers 6 (10 innings)

Darell Hernaiz drew a walk with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Athletics scored twice to prevail after Detroit scored once in the top of the frame.

Jacob Wilson homered and had four RBIs for the Athletics, who won for the 11th time in 16 games. Osvaldo Bido started for the A's and allowed four runs and three hits over three innings.

Riley Greene hit his first career grand slam and Colt Keith had a homer among three hits for the Tigers. Detroit starter Charlie Morton gave up five runs and seven hits over five innings.

Rockies 6, Astros 1

Hunter Goodman slugged his team-leading 26th home run while Mickey Moniak produced a multi-hit and multi-RBI game in support of Tanner Gordon, who earned his third consecutive victory as Colorado won at Houston.

Goodman capped a four-run uprising in the third inning off Hunter Brown (10-6). All four runs charged to Brown in the inning were unearned, and he wound up yielding six runs (two earned) in 6 2/3 innings.

Gordon (5-5) worked six innings and gave up one run on three hits, helping the Rockies end a four-game losing streak. Jimmy Herget, Luis Peralta and Juan Mejia each followed with one scoreless, hitless inning.
