JT Toppin produced 26 points and 10 rebounds as No. 9 Texas Tech did just enough to hold on for a 76-74 win over Baylor in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Conference tournament on Thursday in Kansas City, Mo.
The Red Raiders (25-7) missed their final 10 shots from the floor and 13 of their last 14, going the final 7:26 without a field goal. Texas Tech shot just 19.4 percent from the floor after halftime, leaving the door open for seventh-seeded Baylor (19-14).
Texas Tech missed two free throws with 5.8 seconds remaining, but Baylor's VJ Edgecombe had his running 3-point attempt at the buzzer clang off the rim and away. As a result, the Red Raiders earned a semifinal matchup with Arizona.
Darrion Williams added 14 points for Texas Tech. Norchad Omier paced Baylor with 29 points and 15 boards, and Edgecombe scored 11 points.
No. 2 Houston 77, Colorado 68
Emanuel Sharp had 19 points, Milos Uzan and LJ Cryer each added 14, and the top-seeded Cougars advanced to the Friday semifinals with the win over the 16th-seeded Buffaloes.
Joseph Tugler scored 10 points for Houston (28-4), which will face fourth-seeded BYU in the semis.
Andrej Jakimovski led Colorado (14-20) with 25 points and eight rebounds, while Bangot Dak contributed 10 points.
No. 17 BYU 96, No. 12 Iowa State 92
Richie Saunders recorded 23 points and five assists and Fousseyni Traore added 15 points to help the Cougars beat the Cyclones to reach the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament.
Trevin Knell made all four of his 3-point attempts while scoring 14 points as fourth-seeded BYU (24-8) won its ninth straight game.
Curtis Jones sank a career-best seven treys and scored 31 points for the fifth-seeded Cyclones (24-9). Milan Momcilovic added 18 points for Iowa State, which lost to the Cougars for the second time in 10 days.
Arizona 88, Kansas 77
Henri Veesaar and KJ Lewis had 19 points apiece off the bench as the third-seeded Wildcats put away the sixth-seeded Jayhawks to move on to the Big 12 semifinals.
Trey Townsend added 16 and Caleb Love had 11 for Arizona (21-11), which shot 53.4 percent from the floor and amassed a 46-20 edge on points in the paint.
Zeke Mayo had 20 points to lead Kansas (21-12). Hunter Dickinson and Dajuan Harris chipped in with 19 and 16 points, respectively.
