Here are five takeaways from the Chargers road schedule:

1.Primetime in Las Vegas

The bright lights will shine on the Bolts early away from home.

The Chargers open their 2025 road slate in Las Vegas on Monday Night Football in Week 2, a game that will help set the tone for the early portion of the schedule.

It will also be the first time the Chargers will play in Las Vegas on Monday night, although the Chargers have played the Raiders on the road three previous times on MNF in team history.

Adding to the intrigue? Week 2 is Las Vegas' home opener and September 15 is Pete Carroll's 74th birthday.

Given the history between Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Carroll in both the NFL and in college, this could be a spicy start to their renewed rivalry.

2. A trio of long trips

The Chargers will once again lead the NFL in total air miles in 2025 with 37,086. The Chargers will fly 2,000-plus more miles than Rams, who are second on the list.

The Week 1 game in Brazil makes up a good chunk of those miles, of course, but keep in mind the Bolts also have to play the Giants, Dolphins and Jaguars on the road.

The trip to New York, which comes in Week 4, is around 5,500 miles round trip. The pair of trips to Florida take place in Week 6 (Miami) and Week 11 (Jacksonville).

The Dolphins trip adds more than 5,000 air miles to the tally while the Jaguars trip is just under that amount.

The good news? The Bolts get all of their lengthy road trips done by Week 11.

It will help that the Chargers have a mini bye in Week 8 before their bye in Week 12.

3. A winning road record?

The Chargers home slate is a gauntlet as six of the eight games at SoFi Stadium feature 2024 playoff teams. The Chiefs also fit that category for the Brazil game.

But if the Bolts want to reach the playoffs in 2025, they will likely need to take care of business on the road.

The Chargers play the Raiders, Jaguars and Titans away from home, all teams that picked in the top six spots of the 2024 NFL Draft. Of the Bolts eight road games, only two (Broncos and Chiefs) are against playoff teams from a year ago.

The Chargers strength of schedule is tied for the 11th-toughest (along with the Chiefs) as the Bolts 2025 opponents combined to go 151-138 (.522 winning percentage) in 2024.

But if we split that between home (including Brazil) and away, the difference is stark.

The Chargers home strength of schedule is at .634 (97-56) while the road data is at .397 (54-118).

Plus, the Bolts could see a pair of rookie quarterbacks in New York's Jaxson Dart and Tennessee's Cam Ward on the road.

The Chargers went 6-3 on the road in 2024. They might need a similar record to go dancing again in 2025.

4. Only 1 back-to-back trip

The Chargers infamously had four sets of back-to-back road games on the 2024 schedule.

There's only one such trip this year and it doesn't occur until the final month of the season.

The Chargers play in Kansas City in Week 15 before heading to Dallas for a Week 16 matchup.

Each game will present its own challenge, whether it's trying to knock the Chiefs off their perch atop the AFC West or the general hype and hoopla that comes along with playing the Cowboys.

One thing we know for sure is that these pair of games highlight of tough December slate that also includes home games against Philadelphia and Houston.

5. The finale in Denver

The Chargers will end the 2025 season on the road in Denver.

Stop us if you've heard that one before.

The Chargers have played six of their past seven season finales on the road, with two of those games coming at Mile High.

The 2025 edition will mark the 16th end-of-season matchup between the AFC West foes, with the Bolts holding a 9-6 edge in previous games.

This one could turn out to be one of the biggest games of the season, especially if the AFC West is on the line in Week 18.

The Bolts secured a win in Denver last season, their first since 2018. The Chargers also swept the Broncos for the first time since 2010.

If everything is up for grabs in Week 18, let's hope the Chargers can have the same results as a season ago.
