The New Orleans Saints take on the New York Giants in the Caesars Superdome in Week 5 at noon on Oct. 5 with the broadcast on CBS. The Giants lead the all-time series 17-16, but New Orleans took the last matchup, a 14-11 victory at MetLife Stadium on Dec. 8, 2024, with defensive tackleBryan Breseeblocking the Giants' potential tying field goal.
Let's take a deeper look at the Saints'Week 5opponent, the New York Giants:

Coach:Brian Daboll
Quarterback:Russell Wilson
2024 record:3-14, fourth in NFC East
Most recent regular season matchup:Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024 - Saints 14, Giants 11
Giants-Saints series record:Giants lead 17-16
The Giants started off the 2024 season 2-3 with wins over the Cleveland Browns and the Seattle Seahawks. From there, the bottom would fall out as the Giants would go on a five-game losing streak to head into their bye in Week 11 at 2-8. The Giants made a change at quarterback in the bye releasing Daniel Jones, their starter for six seasons, entrusting the position to Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock for the remainder of the season, but it would not lead to a turnaround as they would finish with a 1-6 record after the bye to finish the season 3-14, fourth in the NFC East, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Two of the Giants biggest offseason additions were to their defensive back room with former Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo and former Dolphins safety Jevon Holland. Adebo is coming off a seven-game season with the Saints that was cut short due to a broken femur suffered in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos. Adebo posted 52 tackles, 10 passes defensed and three interceptions before going down with injury. Holland played 15 games with the Dolphins in 2024 and tallied 62 tackles, four passes defensed, one forced fumble and one sack.
Adebo and Holland will look to improve a Giants secondary that only tallied five interceptions in 2024, the second lowest total in the NFL and allowed 7.12 yards per passing play, the sixth worst mark in the NFL.
The Giants brought in three new quarterbacks ahead of the 2025 season, returning only quarterback Tommy DeVito from 2024. In free agency the team added veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston and in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants traded back into the first round to select Jaxson Dart with the 25th pick out of the University of Mississippi. Coach Brian Dabollsaid after the draftthat Wilson will be the team's starter. Wilson said that Dart will be an "extremely, extremely good talent" but that it does not change his process having a first-round quarterback in the room.
"It doesn't change anything at all,"Wilson said. "I think the biggest thing is for me is just being my best every day, leading. I always think about just leading everybody, just leading every room, every moment, every time I get to step between the white lines and the opportunity of that."
Wilson threw for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns with a 63.7 completion percentage in 11 games with the Steelers in 2024.
The Giants racked up the 10th most sacks in the NFL in 2024 with 45, but they did not rest on their laurels. With the third overall pick, the Giants selected linebacker Abdul Carter fresh off a 12.0 sack season for the Penn State Nittany Lions, earning unanimous All-American and Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year honors.
"He's a great kid, and he's an exceptional player," Daboll said. "He's got great quickness, bend, he's hard to block. He played off the ball the year before, and he has some instincts in that area, as well, smart."
He'll join three time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence coming off a 9.0 sack season in 12 games and a pair of dangerous edge rushers at outside linebacker in Kayvon Thibodeaux who had 5.5 sacks in 12 games and Brian Burns who had 8.5 sacks in 17 games.
