New York Jets linebackers Quincy Williams (shoulder) and Marcelino McCrary-Ball (hamstring) will be placed on injured reserve due to injuries suffered in last week's game and will miss at least four games, the team announced Tuesday.
Williams, 29, left Sunday's 29-27 loss at Tampa Bay late in the first half with a left shoulder injury after a Buccaneers offensive lineman landed on him. He has been a mainstay in the middle of the Jets defense since he was claimed by New York ahead of the 2021 season when Jacksonville placed the former third-round pick on waivers after just two seasons.
He has surpassed 100 total tackles and 70 solo tackles in each of his first four seasons in New York, earning a first-team All-Pro honor in 2023. He has made 72 starts in 86 career games, recording 545 tackles, 55 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 23 pass breakups, 10 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one interception.
McCrary-Ball, 26, is a team captain and special teams contributor who has appeared in 17 games over the last three seasons for the Jets, tallying 24 tackles and forcing one fumble.
In the wake of these IR moves, the Jets signed linebacker Mark Robinson off the New England practice squad, signed linebacker Ben Niemann to the practice squad and released offensive lineman Liam Fornadel from the practice squad.
Robinson, 26, has appeared in 41 games (four starts) and tallied 48 tackles and three forced fumbles with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2022-24) and Patriots.
Niemann, 30, has appeared in 103 games (25 starts) over the last six seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs (2018-21), Arizona Cardinals (2022), Denver Broncos (2023) and Detroit Lions (2024). He has 264 career tackles, eight tackles for loss, one forced fumble and seven fumble recoveries.
Also on Tuesday, multiple media outlets reported the Jets have acquired cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. from the Tennessee Titans. New York also is getting a 2026 seventh-round pick and giving up a sixth-rounder.
Brownlee, 24, was selected by the Titans in the fifth round of the 2024 draft out of Louisville. He has 92 career tackles and one interception in 19 games (16 starts), including 17 tackles in two starts for Tennessee this season.--Field Level Media
