New England Patriots running back Antonio Gibson departed Sunday night's game against the Buffalo Bills after injuring his right knee on a kickoff return in the second quarter.
Gibson appeared to injure the knee just before Cam Lewis of the Bills crashed into him. Gibson fumbled the ball and teammate TreVeyon Henderson recovered at the New England 28-yard line.
Gibson was helped off the field and soon ruled out by the Patriots. The 27-year-old had tears in his eyes as he was helped to the locker room.
Gibson rushed for 21 yards on six carries and caught one pass for 5 yards before exiting. He also averaged 24.5 yards on two kickoff returns.
Counting Sunday, Gibson has rushed for 106 yards on 25 carries this season. He is in his second season with the Patriots after playing four seasons for Washington.
