Jared McCann's 400th career point -- a goal off a rebound with 3.8 seconds left in overtime -- lifted the Seattle Kraken over the visiting Vegas Golden Knights 2-1 on Saturday night.

Matty Beniers notched a goal and an assist for the Kraken, who opened 2-0-0 for the first time in franchise history. Goaltender Joey Daccord made 26 saves.

Pavel Dorofeyev scored his league-leading fifth goal of the season for Vegas and Adin Hill stopped 20 of 22 shots. The Golden Knights have to play a regulation game this season, dropping their season opener to the Los Angeles Kings in a shootout before bouncing back with an overtime win over the San Jose Sharks.

Beniers' shot in overtime from the high slot was stopped by Hill, but McCann lurked in front of the net and banged in the rebound for the winner. The Kraken nearly won it late in regulation as Vince Dunn's shot from the blue line deflected off Beniers, then off the left post with 30 seconds remaining. Dunn assisted on both goals.

Hurricanes 4, Flyers 3 (OT)

Seth Jarvis scored with 16.7 seconds left in overtime to give Carolina a victory over Philadelphia in a wild change of fortunes in the final minute in Raleigh, N.C.

Bobby Brink, who had a goal and an assist, appeared to score the winning goal with 53.1 seconds to play in the extra session, but the goal was nullified after video review because of goaltender interference. Owen Tippett and Travis Sanheim had the other Philadelphia goals, with Sanheim tying the game with four minutes to play in regulation. Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson stopped 35 shots.

Logan Stankoven, Taylor Hall and Jordan Staal scored in regulation for Carolina. Frederik Andersen made 20 saves.

Stars 5, Avalanche 4 (SO)

Jake Oettinger made 35 saves and stopped Nathan MacKinnon on the final shot of the shootout to lift Dallas over Colorado in Denver on Saturday.

Jason Robertson and Mikko Rantanen scored in the shootout for Dallas, while Nathan Bastian and Robertson scored late in the second period. Thomas Harley had a goal and an assist and Wyatt Johnston also scored for the Stars.

Colorado defenseman Brent Burns played in his 1,500th career game, eighth-most by a defenseman and 23rd for any player in NHL history. Burns, 40, also extended his consecutive games played streak to 928, which is the fourth-longest in league history and goes back to November 2013. MacKinnon and Martin Necas each tallied one goal and two assists.

Ducks 7, Sharks 6 (OT)

Leo Carlsson scored 46 seconds into overtime off a 2-on-1 to give Anaheim a comeback victory over host San Jose.

The Ducks had pulled Petr Mrazek for an extra skater and Chris Kreider scored a loose puck off a rush to tie it 6-6 with 51 seconds left in regulation. Kreider and Cutter Gauthier each had two goals, Carlsson had a goal and two assists, Beckett Sennecke had a goal and an assist, Mason McTavish had three assists and Mrazek made 17 saves for Anaheim.

Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith each had three assists for the Sharks. Adam Gaudette had a goal and an assist; Tyler Toffoli, Ryan Reaves, Mario Ferraro, John Klingberg and Jeff Skinner also scored; and Yaroslav Askarov made 36 saves for San Jose.

Mammoth 3, Predators 2 (OT)

Dylan Guenther scored at the 2:56 mark of overtime as Utah rallied for a win over host Nashville.

The goal was Guenther's second of the season. He also had an assist in the victory. Logan Cooley and Jack McBain also scored for the Mammoth. Karel Vejmelka finished with 20 saves.

Erik Haula and Filip Forsberg each scored goals for Nashville and Juuse Saros stopped 20 of 23 shots. The Predators appeared to take a 3-1 lead 26 seconds into the third period, but it was taken off the board for a Utah coach's challenge of an offside pass.

Rangers 6, Penguins 1

Adam Fox scored twice and had an assist as New York defeated host Pittsburgh.

Coach Mike Sullivan got the win in his return to Pittsburgh as his Rangers won their second in a row after dropping the season opener at home to the Penguins. Sullivan coached in Pittsburgh for 10 seasons from 2015-25, winning Stanley Cup championships his first two years. Sam Carrick, Adam Edstrom and Noah Laba each had two assists for New York and Igor Shesterkin made 18 saves

Ben Kindel scored his first NHL goal and Arturs Silovs made 24 saves for the Penguins, who lost for the first time after winning their first two games.

Capitals 4, Islanders 2

Aliaksei Protas scored twice for Washington, which never trailed in a win over New York in Elmont, N.Y.

Martin Fehervary scored the Capitals' first goal while Ryan Leonard scored in the second for Washington, which has split its first two games for the third straight season. Goalie Logan Thompson made 34 saves.

Anthony Duclair scored late in the second and Matthew Schaefer, the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, collected his first NHL goal in the third for the Islanders, who are 0-2-0 for the first time since 2021-22. Goalie Ilya Sorokin recorded 25 saves.

Jets 3, Kings 2

Mark Scheifele scored the winner along with two goals, Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves and Winnipeg defeated visiting Los Angeles.

Scheifele gave the Jets the lead for good when he deflected Josh Morrissey's shot from the left point past Kuemper with 11:47 to go in the game. Alex Iafallo also scored for the Jets, who bounced back after losing their opener to the Dallas Stars on Thursday night. Gabriel Vilardi had two assists for Winnipeg.

Adrian Kempe had a goal with an assist and Mikey Anderson also scored for the Kings, who have lost two of three to start the season. Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves for Los Angeles.

Blues 4, Flames 2

Calgary native Jake Neighbours scored two goals and Joel Hofer made 27 saves, lifting the visiting St. Louis to a victory over Calgary.

Robert Thomas collected a power-play goal and an assist and Pius Suter also tallied for the Blues, who rebounded from a 5-0 season-opening setback to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

Matt Coronato scored two goals and Dustin Wolf turned aside 24 shots while making his third start in four days for the Flames. Calgary went 1-for-6 on the power play to come up short in its bid to win its fourth straight home opener.

Red Wings 6, Maple Leafs 3

Lucas Raymond had a pair of goals, including the go-ahead score for his 100th career goal, and host Detroit notched a victory over Toronto Maple Leafs.

Patrick Kane had a goal and two assists for the Red Wings. Marco Kasper, Simon Edvinsson and Andrew Copp also scored, while Alex DeBrincat added three assists as the Red Wings turned a 2-0 deficit at the first intermission into a 3-2 lead after the second period.

Nicolas Roy, Calle Jarnkrok and Max Domi scored for the Maple Leafs, while Anthony Stolarz made 29 saves.

Bruins 3, Sabres 1

Boston improved to 3-0-0 to start the season for just the fourth time in the past 20 years, defeating visiting Buffalo.

Mark Kastelic led the Bruins with the game-winning goal and an assist. Boston never trailed, taking a 2-0 lead on Kastelic's second-period tally while Pavel Zacha and Sean Kuraly bookended the home team's scoring. Jeremy Swayman made 21 saves, including 13 in the second period.

Jason Zucker netted the lone goal and Alex Lyon stopped 28 shots for Buffalo, which has dropped its first two games of the season.

Canadiens 3, Blackhawks 2

Kaiden Guhle scored the go-ahead goal with 15.7 seconds remaining and Cole Caufield and Zack Bolduc had a goal and assist each to lift Montreal to a win over host Chicago.

Defenseman Guhle's point shot beat Blackhawks goaltender Spencer Knight to cap a lengthy sequence that saw Chicago unable to clear the defensive zone. Nick Suzuki tallied three assists for the Canadiens. An offseason acquisition from the Blues, Bolduc has scored in each of his first three games with Montreal.

Referees whistled the Blackhawks for 39 penalty minutes, which created 10 power plays for the Canadiens, who scored twice with the man advantage. It was the first time since Nov. 1, 2008, a Chicago opponent had at least nine power-play opportunities in a game. Rookie defenseman Sam Rinzel scored his first career goal and Frank Nazar and Teuvo Teravainen each had two assists for the Blackhawks.

Panthers 6, Senators 1

Aaron Ekblad, Anton Lundell and Mackie Samoskevich scored power-play goals as Florida defeated Ottawa in Sunrise, Fla.

It's the first time since 2002 the Panthers have scored with the man advantage in each of their first three games of a season. Florida, which has five power-play goals this season, also got goals from Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart and Evan Rodrigues. Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves.

Ottawa got two goals from Shane Pinto, who has four goals in two games. The Senators also got 21 saves from Linus Ullmark. However, Ullmark had two shots slip out of or tip off his glove for goals.

Devils 5, Lightning 3Connor Brown scored his first two goals as a member of New Jersey in its first win this season, a victory that kept host Tampa Bay winless.Brown, who netted 13 goals for the Edmonton Oilers last season, scored in the first and third periods. Timo Meier and Nico Hischier had a goal and an assist apiece, Jesper Bratt scored, and Luke Hughes and Arseny Gritsyuk each had two assists. Jacob Markstrom made 14 saves for New Jersey.The Lightning's Yanni Gourde, Ryan McDonagh and Darren Raddysh tallied goals. Max Crozier had two assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 24 shots.

Oilers 3, Canucks 1

Andrew Mangiapane and Noah Philp scored second-period goals, leading Edmonton to a victory over visiting Vancouver.

Philp opened the scoring with his first career NHL goal in his 17th game. Leon Draisaitl added an empty-netter with 1:13 remaining in the third as the Oilers picked up their first win of the season following a shootout loss at home against Calgary on Wednesday.

Brock Boeser had the lone Canucks goal, and Thatcher Demko made 34 saves as Vancouver lost for the first time this season after a win over the Flames on Thursday.

Blue Jackets 7, Wild 4

Kirill Marchenko recorded a hat trick as visiting Columbus pulled away for a win over Minnesota.

Zach Werenski and Boone Jenner tallied one goal and two assists apiece for the Blue Jackets, who notched their first win. Adam Fantilli notched a goal and an assist. Goaltender Elvis Merzlikins stopped 48 of 52 shots in his season debut.

Kirill Kaprizov had two goals and one assist, Matt Boldy had one goal and two assists and Zeev Buium finished with one goal and one assist for the Wild. Goaltender Filip Gustavsson allowed six goals on 31 shots.--Field Level Media
