Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Cody Ponce will undergo surgery for a right anterior cruciate ligament injury and likely will be lost for the remainder of the regular season, manager John Schneider revealed Tuesday.
The Blue Jays also recalled left-hander Patrick Corbin from Single-A Dunedin and infielder Tyler Fitzgerald from Triple-A Buffalo, while outfielder Addison Barger was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 6, with a left ankle sprain.
Left-hander Josh Fleming, who was added to the roster Monday and made his Blue Jays debut, was designated for assignment.
Schneider also announced that catcher Alejandro Kirk is expected to miss six weeks following surgery for a broken left thumb. The surgery reportedly included the insertion of a screw into Kirk's thumb.
Ponce, 31, was making his first big-league appearance since 2021 last week when he injured his knee while trying to field a grounder in the third inning of a game against the Colorado Rockies.
Ponce is 1-7 with a 5.77 ERA in 21 career MLB appearances (six starts) for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2020-21) and Blue Jays. He spent the past four seasons pitching in Japan and Korea.
Corbin, 36, is 110-142 with a 4.51 ERA in 13 seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2012-18), Washington Nationals (2019-24) and Texas Rangers (2025). He is in his first season in the Toronto organization.
Fitzgerald, 28, was acquired in a trade with the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. In 178 games with the Giants over the past three seasons, he batted .252 with 21 home runs and 53 RBIs.
Barger, 26, had just one hit in 19 at-bats this season. In three seasons with the Blue Jays, he is a career .224 hitter with 28 home runs and 104 RBIs.
