Willy Adames and Heliot Ramos hit home runs, Trevor McDonald recorded his first career win and the San Francisco Giants overpowered the visiting Colorado Rockies 6-3 in the opener of a season-ending three-game series Friday night.
Adames launched a two-run homer in the first inning and Ramos a three-run shot in the second, giving the Giants (79-81) a comfortable lead in a second straight win that kept their hopes of a .500 season alive.
Ezequiel Tovar produced all the Colorado scoring with a three-run homer, his ninth, in the fifth, one of just six hits the Rockies (43-117) mustered against McDonald and two relievers.
The homer by Adames was his 29th of the season as he attempts to become the first Giant since Barry Bonds in 2004 to reach 30 in a single season.
It followed a one-out walk drawn by Rafael Devers against Colorado starter German Marquez (3-16), who suffered his seventh straight defeat.
Ramos' homer was his 21st. It also scored Jung Hoo Lee, who had tripled, and Grant McCray, who had walked.
The Giants' only other run came immediately following Tovar's homer that had gotten Colorado back in the game at 5-3 in the fifth. Rookie Bryce Eldridge delivered Adames, who had been hit by a pitch, with a sacrifice fly.
Marquez was pulled after 4 1/3 innings, having served up all six Giants runs. He allowed five hits and three walks while striking out one.
Making his fourth major league appearance and just his second start, McDonald (1-0) struck out 10 while limiting the Rockies to the three runs and five hits over seven innings. He did not walk anyone.
Joel Peguero threw a scoreless eighth and Ryan Walker tossed a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts for his 17th save.
Lee complemented his triple with a pair of singles on a 3-for-4 night for the Giants, who outhit the visitors 7-6. Devers reached base four times via a double and three walks.
Rockies pitchers issued eight walks.
Tovar added a single to his homer for the Rockies, who lost their fourth straight.
Brenton Doyle and Braxton Fulford, both of whom had singled, also scored on Tovar's homer.
